this topic was so helpful and awesome :)
im not new to piranha...my dads had them for years, but im going to be new to keeping my own in awhile. hes offered to set me up with my own tank. its going to be a 75 gallon tank and all i want is like 3 red bellies. i find red bellies really really beautiful even though they have a reputation about them.
i attend college so im back and forth to home and cant have the tank until me and my roomie get a rental house this summer. i miss having a tank so much since i grew up with them.

any suggestions would be great...in the mean time im gonna read around and see what i can learn on my own!

Scars - I really liked this writeup. It really helped me as I've planned to get my first pirahna.

Question - you mention that a 40b would be OK for a solo RBP in the article, did you mean for life? I really like the 40b size, so whatever I get I wouldn't want to have to upgrade in a few years.

40b is 36"x18x17, so IMO I think a rbp should do well in that for quiet a bit of time, if not its life. So long as it was solo.

Again IMO I would only want to house a single smaller serra (I.e.sanchezi muda mac/rrs irritans ect...) in this tank, but that's just me, items to like my shoals, and my single serras.

So no one told you life was going to be this way. Your job's a joke, you're broke, you're love life's DOA. It's like you're always stuck in second gear, Well, it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year.

jw85 if you want a single 40 one red would be fine for a long long time but just from experience you may have more fun with a single serra looks like cdub recomended a few good choices, at least thats what i grew to love keeping. i still have my reds but i like my serras better just my opinion they always seem to have more of a personality. once again thats just imo

Wow! This was really helpful.
I'm not brand new to piranhas but still very much learning. This entire website has so much to learn from.
I have 3 red bellies in a 90 gallon. Absolutely love them. Thanks for this write up!!
