I'm planning a major re-scape of this tank within the next week or so, so I figured I would post my progress up until this point, starting with the stand build.

Started with a stack of lumber...

Assembled the frame...

Attached File  IMG_4974.jpg   134.99KB   13 downloads
Attached File  IMG_3926.jpg   134.22KB   17 downloads

Skinned the frame with plywood, topped it off with a piece of furniture grade pine, and then stained the top...

Primed...

Attached File  IMG_4617.jpg   430.64KB   14 downloads

Painted...

Attached File  IMG_4619.jpg   583.02KB   14 downloads

Got the tank ready by painting the background...

Attached File  IMG_3912.jpg   121.24KB   14 downloads
Attached File  IMG_4596.jpg   594.96KB   14 downloads

Finally got it set up (I had to lighten the second pic up quite a bit so you could see the detail, so it looks like crap)...

First scape...

Moved some things around...

After the move -- this is pretty much how it looks now except it has filled in a bit, and I don't like it at all...

As I was typing up the first post, the FedEx guy got here with my Eco Complete, so once I figure out where to put the tank downstairs, I'll be doing the re-scape. Here's some tank specs and a look under the hood...

Tank Specs

40 Breeder All Glass
Eheim 2217
Hydor 200w inline heater
Hydor Koralia Evolution 750
Coralife Aqualight 2x96 watt Power Compact Fixture -- Only running 1 10,000k bulb

I hate how it looks now, I basically just threw in the leftover dwarf sag I had after I set up my 75 and was planning on adding a bunch more plants, but never got around to it. I'm hoping to have it looking nice within the next few weeks.

That's my compressus

After 5 failed attempts, I am FINALLY getting a new 40 breeder today. I have some plants coming in the mail tomorrow, so I'm going to try to paint the background of the new tank tonight so I can get it set up and planted tomorrow.

You're tellin me man... Found out that they have only been getting 2 or 3 tanks per shipment, that explains why it's been so tough to get one.

Nice! So dwarf sag covers the ground nicely? I like the way that looks.

Yeah, it's one of the few grassy foreground plants that does well in low light -- on that short list, I think it is the fastest grower.

Plants didn't come in the mail today, so that sucks.... still considering setting the tank up tonight so that I can put the plants in right when they get here tomorrow morning (hopefully)

I get all my plants from other hobbyists, haven't gotten plants from stores in a LONG time, mostly because I don't have access to any, but even if I did -- hobbyists have better plants and better prices.

I got my plants this morning and spent the afternoon scaping the tank -- I'm not 100% happy with the layout, but I'll let the plants settle in a bit and straighten themselves out before I start moving things around again. I want to keep the plant species list to a minimum in this tank, so I think the only thing I'll be adding is some Marsilea quadrifolia.

Jack was bugging me for pics so here's a couple I snapped real quick -- the water is still a little cloudy and the glass is a bit dirty, but I'll get some better ones in a couple days... Click for better quality

Joe, you weren't kidding about all those needle leaf you got, how many are there?
looks pretty similar to your 75g layout.

Yeah, that's only half of what I got.

The layout only looks similar now because the stuff on the right side has a lot of growing to do -- I have so much needle leaf that I was able to put it as much as I wanted to on the left side without having to worry about waiting for stuff to grow in -- that needle leaf is also sticking pretty much straight up right now, it'll lay down as it grows in. I'll be re-scaping the 75 next week, so things will be a bit different in there as well.
