Piranha Keepers 1st aquascaping contest

We are going to be trying the first PK aquascaping contest, all you need to enter is a tank. The tank can be a tank you already have running, or it can be brand new, the only requirement is no plants or hardscape in the first journal pic (substrate is allowed), what you do after that is completely up to you. The competition will run for 3 months to allow all the aquascapes mature, so if you have a tank you want to plant or rescape, or even a new tank you're itching to set up, now is the time. The winning scape will be decided by members, and the winner will receive a prize.

The rules are simple:
1. Start a journal of the tank before entry close date
2. First journal entry must contain a picture of the tank completely bare with/without substrate.
3. All equipment is allowed.
4. Fish must be present in pictures once the tank is cycled.
5. Journal must be updated every 2 weeks from first journal entry with pics.
6. A final picture must be submitted to staff prior to the end of the contest.
7. Final pictures are not allowed to be photo-shopped excessively, if we see excessive photo-shopping we will we notify you and ask for a new picture.
8. Any aquascaping style is allowed, biotope, dutch, nature style etc.

PM me or post in here if you are interested in entering or if you have any questions.

Update: contest officially starts 1st February and will end 30th April.

Deadline for entries is 31st January, so you still have time to enter.

Journals must be updated at least once every two weeks, I will pm reminders to contestants.

Final picture needs to be sent in to me before 30th April.

So... I already sent a pic with my bare substrate tank setup... Haven't inserted a fish yet because needs a little more time to cycle... But question is, can I begin to add my plants?

Ya, how many people for sure want to compete? And maybe just have a subforum an have a time limit. You have 3 months from when you start.

The subforum should be set up shortly day or two, if you can hold off from planting that'd be good. As soon as its up, and we get the first few journals started, we'll announce the entry close date, and the end of the contest.

So I see the sub forum and I've started a thread to mark my progress . . . the question now is, can I start to add plants even though it's not ready for a fish to be added yet?

Lol I highly doubt it - just making sure I am within the guidelines/rules of the competition... not a question about the health of the plants/fish.

I was referring in particular to rule # 4 from the contest rules:

4. Fish must be present in pictures once the tank is cycled.

So I will just take that as it's cool to go ahead and plant even though the fish hasn't been added yet, since my tank isn't cycled.

not at all, in fact it is the opposite.

plants love ammonia and nitrate. They eat it

So planting while cycling is a good idea? I was always afraid to do anything but hardscape during the cycle.

Yep.
Read into NPT (natural planted tanks), no filtration used, dirt, heavy fish feeding.
